Job Description Development Officer

Position: Development officer

Organization:         Rabbit School Organization (RSO)

Reports to: Executive Director of Rabbit School

Duty station: Phnom Penh with travel to the provinces

Description of the Organization

The Rabbit school is a school for special education in Phnom Penh. The school was founded in 1997 and provides education to children with intellectual disabilities.

The school offers different types of education depending on age and level of intellectual disability. With special classes, readiness classes, integrated classes and inclusive education we cater for those different needs. In addition to these classes focused on children until 16 years old, our vocational training centre, helps young adults to learn skills they need to integrate into the society and get a job.

In 2014 the Rabbit School extended it operations to outside of Phnom Penh. Since our organization is developing and growing rapidly, to answer an increasing demand for specific education in Cambodia, we are in urgent need of a capable person to take charge of the future funding of the Rabbit school development plan.

Responsibilities of the Development Officer

  1. Define a multi year development/ funding strategy for the Rabbit school, including a roll out plan with concrete opportunities to focus on (including innovative approaches to fund-raising)

  2. Identify potential donors, cultivate existing and new relationships and develop Rabbit school funding proposals

  3. Manage follow up and closure of fundraising opportunities – stakeholder management

  4. Assist with donor impact reporting and communications

  5. Project manage and execute fundraising events and initiatives throughout the year

  6. Create Rabbit school communications strategy, roll out plan and project-manage execution

Required qualifications, skills and experience for the role

  1. Undergraduate university degree

  2. Proven track record in sales and business development or fundraising, minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience

  3. Experience in fundraising: development of strategic fundraising plan, leads and opportunities generation (research), writing proposals, closing opportunities

  4. Experience in project management: organisation and management of fund raising events for (private, corporate) donors, local community and society

  5. Experience in relationship management with important stakeholders (IO’s and NGO’s, others) - (split responsibility with Executive Director)  

  6. Experience with (online) communication and marketing (including web-site maintaining)

  7. Team player, part of Rabbit school core management team

  8. Excellent in speaking, reading and writing in English (Khmer preferred)
